Dr. Nathan L. Soice,
Associate Pastor
Nathan and Michelle have been married since 1998 and have three children: Madison, Will, and Trevor. Michelle, who grew up in rural Toledo, IL, currently serves as the practice nurse at an OBGYN office in Normal (Dr. Nona Fulk). Their oldest daughter Madison is a graduate of Illinois State University (pre-vet med) and is planning on attending vet school in the fall of 2025. She enjoys hanging out with friends, family, and her dog Rosie. Will attends Illinois State University studying computer science. He enjoys arm wrestling, reading, computers, gaming, politics, and blacksmithing. Trevor attends Heyworth High School and enjoys gaming, fishing, wrestling, dirt bikes, mechanics, and agriculture.
Nathan was born and raised in Heyworth, IL and is a 1995 graduate of Heyworth High School. Go Hornets! Nathan attended Lincoln Christian University and transferred to Illinois Wesleyan University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in music theory and composition in 1999. Nathan then transitioned to Illinois State University where he held a graduate teaching assistantship and eventually earned a Master's degree in music in 2001. Nathan's master's thesis was an original orchestral composition based on three psalms of David. Nathan has also completed doctoral studies at the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies in Orange Park, FL. He earned his Doctor of Worship Studies (DWS) degree in 2012. His dissertation explored the biblical, historical, and theological role of the worship leader. Nathan has served as an Adjunct Professor at TCM International Institute in Austria, teaching a course on the theology and practice of Christian worship. Nathan has also studied Restoration Movement history at Lincoln Christian Seminary and hymnology at Covenant Theological Seminary (St. Louis). Nathan enjoys engaging in research concerning local church history and has written a history book for the First Christian Church in Monticello, IL (where he served as Worship Minister from 2003-2017) and the Lytleville Christian Church in rural Heyworth, IL. Nathan has taught Restoration Movement worship history at Lincoln Christian Seminary and workshops and seminars on Christian worship at local churches.
Nathan was introduced to Jesus Christ at the Heyworth Christian Church in Heyworth, IL where his parents served as pianist/organist. He was baptized into Christ at the age of 13 at Little Galilee Christian Camp in Clinton, IL. Nathan was formally ordained into the Christian ministry at the Heyworth Christian Church in 2003. He feels blessed and privileged to serve God's people with his gifts in the area of worship, music, administration, and pastoral care. His other interests include classic automobiles (he has owned two classic Buicks), movies, reading books about worship, teaching and writing about worship, going on dates with his wife, family camping trips, and spending time with friends and family. The Soices have completed an extensive remodeling job on a home in rural Heyworth and enjoy working on and improving their property.
